Wiltshire LEA Virtual Visits Website

The Wiltshire LEA website introduced the concept of a “Virtual Visit” using interactive 3D technology to simulate real work experience. The aim of the website was to provide comprehensive coverage of selected areas of the Business Studies GNVQ curriculum for 16-18 year olds, with specific focus on the Hospitality & Catering sector.

The Swindon Marriott Hotel was chosen as the setting for the virtual work experience, and their staff provided important insights into many aspects of hospitality and catering, as well as providing the basic material for the student activities.

The website provides the following features:

• A real-time, interactive 3D model of the Swindon Marriott Hotel, including the exterior, bars and restaurants, leisure centre, offices and guest rooms;
• A database of questions based on the Business Studies curriculum;
• A notepad in which the user can type answers or paste information from websites and other sources;
• Video sequences in which Marriott Hotel staff describe their roles and responsibilities.
